The output of the meter is usually connected to a PID controller which corrects the rotational frequency (RPM) of the pump. The disadvantage of this method is that the flow of the pump is unstable, making it necessary to filter the output signal, resulting in a slow output signal. Since this signal is also used as a control signal, the response and control are slowed down. Pump Control Using a Mass Flow Controller To avoid this, you can use a mass flow meter with an integrated PID controller with an independent control signal to control the pump speed. Since this control signal, unlike the output signal, is not subject to filter interference, the flow meter and pump combination can achieve unrivaled control speed and stability. In the event of a back pressure change, the pump is immediately adjusted to run faster or slower, resulting in an immediate correction of the flow to maintain the desired accuracy. This method of flow measurement is independent of fluid properties, so fluid changes require no recalibration or the use of conversion factors. Small Flow Pump Control In the case of liquid colorant dosing, (ultra) small flow mass flow controllers bring great convenience in dosing undiluted dye. There is no need to mix the dye with water to create a sufficient flow. Not only is undiluted dye more concentrated and of higher quality than water-based mixes, it also saves water and prevents algae growth in the unit.
