Two tubes shaped like a U with a magnetic and coil assembly are used in U shaped flow meters. Sensors are placed at the inlet and outlet of the tubes. The Coriolis forces caused by the flow of material determine the mass flow rate.

The high pressure coriolis flow meters are ideal for chemical injection metering in deep water offshore and subsea operations. Deep water HPHT oil wells in offshore deep water can operate under pressures up to 20,000 psi (1,378 bar) and at temperatures up to 360°F (182°C). In order to overcome high well pressures and friction losses within pipelines, high-pressure operation is essential with well heads as far as 60 miles (100 km) from gathering points.
